About the Concert
Surrey Brass return to Richmond to perform a Summer Concert, conducted by Jonathan Spencer. The musical programme contains something to please all musical tastes, including Classical, Film Music, Jazz and Popular repertoire. We feature somewhat eclectic arrangements made specially by members of Surrey Brass, which cannot be heard elsewhere. We take particular pleasure in using our unique Symphonic Brass sound to create a highly varied palette of sounds enabling performance of the widest range of music.
The first part of the concert contains a range of classical music starting with the opening from Monteverdi's "Orfeo", premiered in 1607, followed by a clever adaptation of a baroque piece by English composer Anthony Holborne. "Let The Bright Seraphim" by Handel is the first piece that features Corrinne Hart in tonight's programme.
The second part of the programme has a distinct Spanish flavour, with film music and jazz mixed in to create a lighter mood. We open the second half with music from the film "The Incredibles", music with bite! The Trombone section is featured in "The Blades of Toledo", a Brass Band favourite. "Concierto de Aranjuez", a flugel solo made famous in the film "Brassed Off" continues the Spanish theme. A jazz feature, "Autumn Leaves", has been arranged specially for Surrey Brass by legendary jazz trombonist Bill Geldard who is also playing in the ensemble for this concert.
We are delighted to welcome our guest soloist, the lyric soprano Corinne Hart, Soprano who will perform music specially arranged for soprano and brass ensemble.

This concert is special for Surrey Brass since we are saying farewell to our conductor of several years, Jonathan Spencer, who is moving on from his current post as Bandmaster of the Royal Logistics Corps Band to a new and exciting posting as Bandmaster of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment. However, it's not goodbye since Surrey Brass have plans to undertake our first tour - Gibraltar Tour 2020 - to renew our acquaintance. We hope to be able to perform within a cavern within the Rock of Gibraltar which has been used for a concert hall for many years, among other purposes.
